In the dim hours of Monday morning (EST), the Nobel prize committee in Stockholm announced they’d awarded this year’s medicine prize to an American researcher working at Yale, another American from Berkley, and a German teaching at Stanford. The trio had together made some notable discoveries about the way in which enzymes, hormones, and other such biological doodads are transported about within cells. It sounded like some mighty impressive and significant work.
So, OK, I guess I’m out of the running for the 2013 medicine prize, but that’s okay. I wasn’t really getting my hopes up about the medicine prize anyway. No, I still have three days to go.
