Another Proud Moment for the NYPD
Cop suspended for shooting girlfriend in the neck.
By Jim Knipfel
It’s happened an awful lot this year, but then again it happens a lot every year. I think we’re just paying closer attention. Yes, another proud officer with the NYPD has once again colorfully illustrated the caliber of individual who applies to the Academy.
Sgt. Jose Guerrero, who also runs a karate school for kids, got into a mild disagreement with his 39-year-old girlfriend in their Yonkers apartment Wednesday evening. Two days before Christmas, this sort of thing is common, right? All the various overwhelming stresses of the season and what have you. So Guerrero, 49, whipped out his service revolver and shot her in the throat.
The woman, who is also the mother of Guerrero’s lucky, lucky child, walked herself to a nearby hospital while bleeding profusely from the neck, but is expected to be okay. Guerrero will never face charges of any kind, of course, but he has been suspended, which is a bit of a shock right there. We can likely expect another one of those NYPD press releases begging the public to please, please, please don’t judge the earnest and upstanding men and women of New York’s finest by the actions of a few bad eggs. But y’know, when they have to trot out that same dusty press release every week, it kinda loses its punch after a while.
