viseMènn Are Begging You Please
Norwegian Atmospheric Rock
By Yvonne Stegall
If you take the time to do the research, you’ll find that there are hundreds of genres and subgenres of music. These days you find even more crossovers than ever. Country singers are pop stars and rock stars are country singers. It’s confusing. Rock alone has many genres, one of them is atmospheric rock.
I am begging you please listen to viseMenn, pun intended. They recently released a new single, of course titled ‘Begging You Please.’ If you are a rock music fan and you like that atmospheric rock sound, kind of a blend of Dream Theater and any stoner rock band, you will fall for this particular single. It will have you, like me, looking to figure out where you can find more of their music.
Listening to The Music
There is something about that song that reaches deep down into your psyche. This band knows how to handle their instruments and there isn’t a point in the song where you aren’t feeling lost in the vocals and the instrumentation, as they blend together like they are part of the same heartbeat.
Melodic rock isn’t for everyone, but if you’ve ever liked this type of music it’s assured that ‘Begging You Please’ will quickly become one of your top favorite songs in this genre of music. There’s always some interesting about rock and metal coming out of countries other than the United States, and especially the music out of the Scandinavian countries.
If you’re worried that this melodic rock will put you to sleep, have no fear. It’s trippier and atmospheric than relaxing and sleep inducing. Each listen will have you noticing more of the layers of the music as well.
Watching The Video
The video for ‘Begging You Please’ is not really as interesting as the song, although it’s worth a watch through once. It’s mostly focused on the band themselves playing in the woods. It’s a beautiful area, and almost worth watching just to see the forest full of trees.
However, the video seems to tell the story of two people who both come upon someone in need of CPR. One is a gentleman driving a car and the other a woman jogger. If you’re like me, you’ll suspect that each is trying to save their own life from the beginning, which ends up being the case.
I still haven’t figured out how the video ties in with the song, aside from maybe that they are begging for their lives. Sometimes it really doesn’t matter what the video says, as long as the song is good, but it’s kind of like dissecting a poem and trying to figure out what was in someone else’s head when it comes to words and actions.
viseMenn is a band to watch. They are getting tons of press for this one song, but they also have a small catalog of music available, if you check out their website. Their sound is really relaxing and would work great to put you in a more mellow atmosphere, but not so mellow as to make you feel like you are listening to some easy listening music. They are a rock band, after all.
